The first of two simultaneously released 7-inch singles featuring Yoshiko (Gtr./Vo.) of the world-renowned Tokyo girls’ garage trio The 5.6.7.8’s, backed by Australian garage veterans CHEETAH BEAT, delivering wild new versions of classic Showa-era Japanese pop and soul!
Side A is a funky MOD-garage/Northern Soul-style cover of a 1969 classic by Akiko Wada, while Side B takes on a 1970 favorite by Chinatsu Nakayama with a groovy garage-soul treatment.

CHEETAH BEAT バイオグラフィー
Cheetah Beatは、シドニー生まれのバンドで、60年代ガレージ、サーフ・インストゥルメンタルの狂騒、荒々しいR&B、そして映画音楽のようなクールさを衝突させたサウンドを鳴らしている。2018年末にライヴ・シーンへ登場して以来、彼らはひと言ではカテゴライズできず、華々しく無視することもできず、しかも一度聴いたら頭から離れない独自のサウンドを築き上げてきた。
The Hekawis、The Booby Traps、The Thurston Howlers、The Crusadersという4バンドのDNAを受け継ぎ、ヴィンテージな音楽的影響を、明確に現代的で swaggering（ふてぶてしく闊歩するような）な感覚を通して表現している。彼らを象徴するサウンドは、むせび泣くサックス、催眠的なボンゴ、鋭くエッジの効いたファズ・ギター、そして猛烈に感染力のあるリズムが混ざり合った、まさに可燃性のカクテル。いかがわしく、洗練され、危険で、そしてダンスフロアを熱狂させる、そんな要素が同居している。
Cheetah Beatの音楽には映画的な雰囲気があるが、決して磨き上げられたものでも、先が読めるものでもない。彼らの曲には、脅しめいた雰囲気、アティテュード、そして真夜中のようなクールさがたっぷりと染み込んでおり、過ぎ去った時代のサウンドを、ファズと汗、そして生々しいガレージ・パンクのエネルギーの霞の中へと引きずり込んでいく。そこにあるのは、敬意を払いすぎることのないヴィンテージ感、グルーヴを失わないワイルドさ、そして決して安全策を取ることのない、あまりにも自然体なクールさだ。
2025年3月、Cheetah Beatはシドニーで行われたソールドアウト公演で、日本の伝説的ガレージ・バンド、The 5.6.7.8'sと同じステージに立った。この出会いはまさに火花を散らすものとなった。火花が飛び、音楽的な化学反応が燃え上がり、バンドのカリスマ的なヴォーカリスト兼ギタリスト、Ronnie Yoshiko Fujiyamaとの新たなクリエイティヴ・パートナーシップが生まれた。
2025年9月までに、Cheetah BeatとRonnieは5曲の強烈な録音を完成させ、その中には60年代の日本のソウル／グループ・サウンズ（GS）の名曲4曲を大胆に再構築したものも含まれていた。単にオリジナルを再現するのではなく、彼らはそれらの楽曲を、自分たちのファズまみれでサックスを軸とした音の機構へと叩き込み、ヴィンテージな日本のガレージとソウルを、荒々しく、騒々しく、そして紛れもなくCheetah Beatらしいものへと変貌させた。
このコラボレーションは2026年6月にも続き、Cheetah BeatとRonnieは再び集結してさらなる楽曲をレコーディング。互いの爆発的な音楽的化学反応を、さらに一歩先へと押し広げた。この国境を越えたコラボレーションの最初の成果は、2026年後半、日本の名門Time Bomb Recordsから2枚の7インチ・シングル、Volume 1とVolume 2としてリリースされる予定だ。この作品は、Cheetah Beatにとって国際的な舞台へ踏み出す最初の大きな一歩となり、彼らの爆発的なサウンドをより幅広いリスナーへ届けることになる。

CHEETAH BEAT BIO....
Cheetah Beat are a Sydney-born sonic collision of '60s garage, surf instrumental mayhem, raw R&B and cinematic soundtrack cool. Bursting onto the live scene in late 2018, the band have carved out a sound that’s impossible to categorise, gloriously hard to ignore, and even harder to shake.
Forged from the combined DNA of The Hekawis, The Booby Traps, The Thurston Howlers and The Crusaders, Cheetah Beat channel vintage influences through a distinctly modern, swaggering lens. Their signature sound is a combustible cocktail of wailing saxophone, hypnotic bongos, razor-edged fuzz guitar and relentlessly infectious rhythms―equal parts sleazy, sophisticated, dangerous and dancefloor-ready.
There’s a cinematic quality to Cheetah Beat’s music, but never anything polished or predictable. Their songs ooze menace, attitude and midnight cool, dragging the sounds of a bygone era through a haze of fuzz, sweat and raw garage punk energy. It’s vintage without reverence, wild without losing its groove, and effortlessly cool without ever playing it safe.
In March 2025, Cheetah Beat shared the stage with legendary Japanese garage icons The 5.6.7.8's for a sold-out Sydney show. The encounter proved incendiary. Sparks flew, musical chemistry ignited, and a new creative partnership was born with the band's charismatic vocalist and guitarist, Ronnie Yoshiko Fujiyama.
By September 2025, Cheetah Beat and Ronnie had unleashed five blistering recordings, including four explosive re-imaginings of classic '60s Japanese soul and Group Sounds (GS) anthems. Rather than simply recreate the originals, the band detonated them through their own fuzz-soaked, sax-driven sonic machinery―turning vintage Japanese garage and soul into something raw, raucous and unmistakably Cheetah Beat.
The collaboration continued in June 2026, when Cheetah Beat and Ronnie reunited to cut even more material, taking their volatile musical chemistry even further. The first fruits of this transcontinental collaboration will arrive as two vinyl 45s―Volume 1 and Volume 2―on Japan’s renowned Time Bomb Records in the second half of 2026. The releases mark Cheetah Beat’s first major step onto the international stage and introduce their explosive sound to a wider audience.
